He was Harmon was a very active member of his church and served on practically all of its boards and committees. He was educated in 1932 at N. C. State University, Raleigh, NC; Graduated. He lived between 1932 and 2002 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC; Harmon was a life long resident of Kernersville, NC and was involved in all aspects of life in both Kernersville and Forsyth Co. He served on many boards and agencies in leadership roles including chairman of the John R. Patterson Memorial Building Committee which was dedicated in 1970 (Kernersville library and community meeting facility), the Kernersville Centennial Celebration Committee and the 150th celebration 50 years later, and the Oak Ridge Foundation Society. He was one of the founders of the John R. Patterson Library of Kernersville, a longtime member of the Forsyth County Library Commission and numerous other community organizations. He was Mayor of City of Kernersville. Harmon resigned 1 year into his second term to become postmaster of the Kernersville poset office. between 1933 and 1935 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. He was Postmaster of Kernersville Post Office between 1936 and 1966 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. He married Virginia McCain on 16 October 1937 at Guilford County, NC. Elected president of N.
