Sept 2, 1870 contains the following account: "Shooting Affray. - Last Wednesday evening Linnville Bowers who resides a couple of miles from this city on Benton County, went into the albany Brewery, and getting into an altercation with Mr. Roggers, one of the proprietors, drew a pistol and fired two shots at Mr. R., fortunately neither of them took any effect. About this time a man who works in the Brewery caught Bowers hand from behind and wrenched the psitol from him, when Mr. Roggers shattered a few beer glasses over his head, cutting it severly in several places. Bowers was arrested, charged with intent to kill and, after a hearing before recorder Arnold, was held to bail, in the sum of $500 to answer at the next term of Circuit Court." The Sept. 12, 1870 issue of the Oregonian indicated that Bowers was killed while trying to escape jail Sept. 5.
