     In Cyrus's early adult life, he took a veterinary course and for about 40 years practiced in his community. He never set a price for his services, always leaving that to the man for whome he had done work. If he was paid, it was all right with him and if not paid, that was all right too.

After moving to the Neodesha area, he lived on a farm on top of Hand's Hill, west of Neodesha. Their first home was a log house, later building a larger house. This second house was later occupied by their son John and wife Nell along with their three children.

Cyrus and Clara played the part of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for the the Neodesha's annual Christmas event - treats for children. Cyrus's flowing snow white beard made him a natural for this part.
