     William Stephen Linville was also known as William Steven Linville. William Stephen Linville also went by the name of Will Linville. He was born on 6 September 1852 at White Road Community, Walkertown, Forsyth County, NC. He was Although self educated, William taught school for many years at Valley School near Walkertown. The school term being 3 months and compemsation was $90. This school was located on what is now Old Valley School Road between the Walkertown and Kernersville communities. The old school structure finally collapsed around 1995. at Valley School, Forsyth County, NC. He was Farmed. He married Mary Louise Vance, daughter of (?) Vance, on 27 February 1874 at Forsyth County, NC. William Stephen Linville and Mary Louise Vance appeared on the census of 1880 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. William Stephen Linville was Mercantile business/funeral home - went into business with his brother-in-law, William Fulp (wife was Laura Vance). As was the custom of the day, the mercantile business sold cskets and vaults and thus served as the funeral home for Kernersville. in 1890. He moved at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC, in 1890 Moved with thier children to the homeplace at 412 W. Mountain St. They continued farming on a farm out Dobson street on Linville Springs Road. He was Kernersville Furniture Factory - organized this business (located between Dobson and Nelson Street near the RR crossing and the lumber company. M. Vance Fulp took over the furniture factory some time later. circa 1895 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. He and Mary Louise Vance appeared on the census of 1900 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. William Stephen Linville was Bank of Kernersville - organized bank with the assistance of a Mr. Mendenhall from High Point, NC. The bank was located in a brick building on the southeast corner of Main and Mountain Streets in the center of Kernersville. Later George Fulp took over the bank but W. S. remained the president of the bank for many years. in 1903 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. He was W. S. Linville and Sons - mercantile business. Addison N. and James A. were his partners. Business was located in a brick building on the southeast corner of Main and Mountain Street in the center of Kernersville (next to the bank he founded). circa 1905 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC. W. S. served as Mayor of Kernersville and on the Board of Alderman. He was a charter member of Kernersville Lions Club, organized in 1925.

He also gave much time to Kernersville Grade School which was located near his residence. He server as chiarman of the schoolboard for many years.

He was charter member of the Methodist Protestant Church (now Cherry Street UMC). He and Mary Louise Vance appeared on the census of 1910 at Kernersville, Forsyth County, NC.
