Allen Wilbur O'Connell was born on 3 September 1894 at Glenco Park, Portland, Multnomah County, OR. He was Allen was admitted to the Oregon bar in 1914 and California in 1917. Later he became as businessman and manufacturer of dog food. in 1914 at OR. He was graduated in 1914 at University of Oregon, Eugene, OR; B. A. Degree. He began military service in 1918 at World War I Allen was an Ensign in U.S. Navy - deployed to Europe from Brooklyn Navy Yards. He stopped in Jamaica, NY to visit with his uncle Dr. Henry R. Linville before leaving for Europe. This was, apparently, the last contact between Henry and his sister Julia's family, although Henry knew that Julia's son became a lawyer, which was true, but he couldn't remember his first name. He married Leslie Blanche Freer on 6 August 1922 at Ashland, Jackson County, OR; The marriage was performed by Wm. S. Crowell, County Judge. Allen Wilbur O'Connell lived between 1924 and 1928 at A800 Washington, Portland, Multnomah County, OR; A wife, Blanche, is listed with him. They are president and secretary-treasurer of Oregon Belmont Corporation. There is no indication exactly what this corporation did. He lived in 1929 at 1402 Fenwick, Portland, Multnomah County, OR; His mother, Julia O'Connell, is listed as living with him. This would be the time period that his wife had left him and moved to Burbank, CA. Allen Wilbur O'Connell filed for divorce from Leslie Blanche Freer on 1 October 1930 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR; Allen's complaint indicates that Leslie left him 1 Sept 1928, repeatedly saying that she does not intend to return. She was living at 271 S. Providencia Ave., Burbank, CA. Allen visited there and tried to get her to return at the time as well as through a "lengthy correspondence" with her over the course of two years. No children were born from the marriage. Allen Wilbur O'Connell and Leslie Blanche Freer were divorced on 5 November 1930 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR; The decree was entered by default since Leslie Blanche (Freer) O'Connell, then living in Burbank, CA, did not reply to summons. Allen Wilbur O'Connell lived in 1931 at 481 Marion Avenue, Portland, Multnomah County, OR; There is no listing for Allen in 1930 city directory. He was (an unknown value) in 1932 at Garry Dog Food Inc., Portland, Multnomah County, OR. He married Agnes J. Westfall on 26 October 1932 at Kelso, Cowlitz County, WA. Allen Wilbur O'Connell was He is not in the 1933 directory so must still be in Washington where he married Agnes in 1932. When he reappears in 1934 at 708 N.E. Ran for delegate-at-large for the Democratic Convention in Chicago. He and Agnes J. Westfall were divorced on 4 October 1949 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR; Agnes filed for divorce, complaining that Allen was physically violent (she requested a restraining order) and verbally abusive, but Allen entered a cross complaint. There was a lengthy court proceedings with a stipulation of agreement finally entered. Allen Wilbur O'Connell was A berry farmer after 1954 at 235 S.E. 165th, Gresham, Multnomah County, OR. He married Gladys Irene McDonald on 13 December 1954 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR. The Oregon Bank was granted a trusteeship to care for Allen's financial affairs from the date of his admission to the hospital until 11 April 1969 when Allen's assets were returned to his own management. He had been released 7 March 1969. He died on 16 December 1978 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR, at age 84.      Doris Marie O'Connell was born on 4 April 1905 at 39 (?) E. Sherman, Portland, Multnomah County, OR. She and Julia Carter Linville appeared on the census of 15 January 1920 at Portland, Multnomah County, OR; However, in a strange entry, Julia is listed as a lodger with no occupation in former husband Dennis's house on the 1920 census AND again in a household of her own as a janitor in a woolen mill a few blocks away. Daughter Doris is listed in both places as well. Dennis who is also listed twice in two different enumeration districts, although at the same address, has both children listed with him but not his second wife, Clara, although she was clearly married to Dennis at the time. This seems to be an irregularity in the census enumeration. Doris Marie O'Connell and Julia Carter Linville lived between 1921 and 1925 at 102 1/2 N. Jersey, Portland, Multnomah County, OR. Doris Marie O'Connell was A beautician between 1923 and 1929 at 311 N. Jersey, Portland, Multnomah County, OR. As of circa 1930,her married name was Doris Marie Owley. She married Christopher Owley circa 1930; Hospital intake records filled out by C. J. Owley indicate that Doris married at age 24 which would have been 1930. Her mother was hopitalized in the same year. Doris Marie O'Connell lived in 1933 at 894 E. Alder, Portland, Multnomah County, OR; This is her first appearance in the Portland directories since 1929. When she reappears, she is a student living at same address as her father (894 E. Alder, apt 1). She lived between 1935 and 1939 at 8724 N. Jersey, Portland, Multnomah County, OR; she is listed as Mrs. Doris (Cornelius) Owley at Doris Beauty Shoppe 8427 N. Jersey. Cornelius is listed as an engineer (probably railroad). This is in the St. John section of North Portland. Her husband remained at that address until 1939 and then doesn't appear in Portland City Directories after that date nor in Oregon Vital Records. She was ill with (an unknown value) on 7 February 1938 at Oregon State Hospital, Salem, Marion County, OR. Information on the admission records indicates that this was her first admission and she had had one attack - classified as #171, she was married, age 34 and a beauty operator. The clinical records are fairly complete. Doris did not have any offspring and was probably a widow or divirced when she died. She died on 30 May 1951 at Salem State Hospital, Salem, Marion County, OR, at age 46; Cause of death was inanition (starvation), precipitated by multiple sclerosis.

The OSH Death Book report states that she had lived in the hospital 13 years, 2 months and 23 days. An obituary appeared in the Salem Capital Journal 1 June 1951: "Doris Owley, In this city 30 May, Doris Owley, late resident of Portland, Ore., at the age of 46 years. Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m. in the W. T. Rigdon Chapel, with internment in St. Barbara cemeter. The Rev. A.J. Gelinas officated." She was buried on 1 June 1951 at St. Barbara Cemetery, Salem, OR; Doris's obituary indicates that her funeral was held at Rigden Chapel. The cemetery and chapel indicate that she was buried in a single plot and that it was a charity case handled by St. Joseph Catholic Church. This was apparently a rotating service to the Oregon State Hospital provided by local churches.
