     William Linvill was born circa 1738 at Linville Creek, Orange County, VA, M; His potential birth year is based on the 1750 and 1751 Dan River District NC (filed under Granville County NC). He is not listed in father Thomas Linvill's household in 1750, but is in 1751. See dicsussion on brother David's record. He appears on the 1751 tax list for Dan River, Granville County, NC, Although there is an earlier tax record (1750) for Dan River District in Guilford Co NC, William is not on it -- only his father and two brothers, Thomas and David. This will place the year of his birth more precisely than that of those two older brothers. He witnessed the land of Thomas Linvill on 21 April 1752 at Middle Fork, Belews Creek, Orange County, NC; Thomas Sr. and his son Thomas Jr each entered 200 acre of land for a Lord Granville Land Grant as part of the distibution of western NC land - father on 21 Apr 1752 and son a month earlier. Thomas Sr. then received a warrant to survey his land a year later on 21 March 1753 and it was then surveyed 17 May 1753 as 200 acres on both sides of Belews Creek, beginning at upper "Cane Break" - (son) William Linvall was chain carrier, along with William Barclay. The grant and deed were issued 1 Aug 1760, though no deed was recorded in Rowan Co. It may have been part of the missing Orange County deeds. William Linvill married (?) Unknown; A marriage is assumed for sometime around the birth of likely son William (born by 1755). We know the father William was alive when he served as chain carrier in 1754 for a neighbor's survey. And he was either no longer living or not living in NC at the time of the 1759 tax records for the rest of the family. He may have been associated with the geographic places as "Lynville Mountain" and "Lynville Creek" in present-day Franklin County VA. However, no records have been found to suggest this -- only the place names and the term "Linville brothers" on the county's historical map. Was chain carrier the land of Thomas Linvill on 16 May 1753 at Middle Fork, Belews Creek, Stokes County, North Carolina; warrant for a survey for a Lord Granville Land Grant as part of the distribution of western North Carolina land. He had entered a request for that a year earlier on 21 March 1752, which likely meant he was 21 by then. The survey of 200 acres fell on both sides of Great Meadow, Middle Fork of Belews Creek. His father Thomas Linvill Sr., who had land apparently adjacent, and his brother William Linvill were chain carriers for the survey on 16 May 1753. This is the land that Thomas Jr's family held until moving to western North Carolina in the 1770s. The official land file in the state archives indicates that a grant and deed were granted in "Orange County" (sic) 1 July 1760. If so, it has not been located in either Orange or Rowan county deed.

There is also a possibility that despite being fully established in Belews Creek, North Carolina during 1750s, parts of the family moved up and down the Great Wagon Road to Virginia through the decade. Present-day Franklin County Virginia historical map lists "Linville Brothers" along the Carolina Road near "Lynville Creek," "Linville Ford" and "Lynville Mountain" near today's Hardy, Virginia. County deeds and tax records have yet to reveal exactly which Linville brothers this could be, but it seems most likely to be Thomas Sr.'s older sons -- either Thomas of this narrative and his younger brother William who were in his 1751 tax record or William and next youngest son David. Research on this possibility continues (2023). William Linvill died between 1754 and 1759; He was alive in 1751 for the tax list and on 20 Mar 1754 when he served as a chain carrier. But he is not listed in his tather's household in 1759. Only brothers, Thomas and David are. At least one child -- William -- was born before 1755, according to his 1800 and 1810 census records. He witnessed the land of Thomas Linvill on 7 March 1754 at (now) Surry County, NC; as a part of Lord Granville Land Grant distibution of western NC land. The
survey 500 acres on Mayo Road south side of Fishers or Pinery Mountain - sons David Linvill and William Linvill were chain carriers. No deed for either these 500 acres or the 200 acres that each Thomas Sr. and Jr. were granted appear in Rowan County deeds. This is not atypical for the family as many land records were not officially recorded. It is also possible that the deeds were recorded in Orange County (given notations on the grants), but those records before 1778 include many burned in advance of Cornwallis's march through the area. William and Thomas Linville were sworn chain carriers for Egbert Haywood for land on both sides of Belews Creek, joining the Linville line.

     Melvin Randall Potts married Mary Sue Linville, daughter of William Weathers Linville and Mary Ballard, on 16 August 1985 at Guilford County, NC.

     Edna T. Tinsley was born on 3 January 1869 at Allen County, KY. As of 25 December 1885,her married name was Edna Linville. She married William Thomas Linville, son of William David Linville and Sarah Elizabeth Pippin, on 25 December 1885 at Sumner County, TN. Edna T. Tinsley and William Thomas Linville appeared on the census of 1910 at Hog Pen, Allen County, KY. Edna T. Tinsley and William Thomas Linville appeared on the census of 1930 at Gainesville, Allen County, KY; Three grandchildren living with them. Edna T. Tinsley died on 11 February 1942 at Gainesville, Allen County, KY, at age 73.

     William Thomas Linville was also known as William L. Linville. He was born on 7 February 1887 at Allen County, KY. He married Lillie J. Taylor on 8 July 1909 at Macon County, TN. William Thomas Linville and Lillie J. Taylor appeared on the census of 1910 at Hog Pen, Allen County, KY. William Thomas Linville and Lillie J. Taylor appeared on the census of 1920 at Gainesville, Allen County, KY. William Thomas Linville and Lillie J. Taylor appeared on the census of 1940 at Allen County, KY. William Thomas Linville died on 21 October 1960 at age 73. He was buried at Durham Springs Cemetery, Scottsville, Allen County, KY.

     Benjamin Harrison Linville also went by the name of Ben Linville. He was born circa 1888 at KY. He married Drucilla Reynolds Satterfield on 20 April 1912.

     John Linville was born circa 1897 at KY.

     Myrt Linville was born on 2 April 1899 at KY. She died on 6 March 1923 at Allen County, KY, at age 23.

     Drucilla Reynolds Satterfield was born on 3 March 1884. As of 20 April 1912,her married name was Drucilla Linville. She married Benjamin Harrison Linville, son of William Thomas Linville and Edna T. Tinsley, on 20 April 1912. Drucilla Reynolds Satterfield died on 4 December 1913 at age 29.

     Harrison T. Linville married Anna M. Meador. Harrison T. Linville was born on 29 January 1913. He died on 14 June 1986 at age 73.

     Her married name was Anna M. Linville. Anna M. Meador married Harrison T. Linville, son of Benjamin Harrison Linville and Drucilla Reynolds Satterfield.

     Mollie Edna Hawks was born in March 1874 at WV. As of 26 June 1894,her married name was Mollie E. Linville. She married Daniel Luther Linville Sr., son of John Madison Linville and Elizabeth E. Moore, on 26 June 1894 at First Presbyterian Church, Louisville, KY. Mollie Edna Hawks and Daniel Luther Linville Sr. appeared on the census of 1900 at Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. Mollie Edna Hawks and Daniel Luther Linville Sr. appeared on the census of 1910 at Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. Mollie Edna Hawks and Daniel Luther Linville Sr. appeared on the census of 1920 at Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. Mollie Edna Hawks and Daniel Luther Linville Sr. appeared on the census of 1930 at Louisville, Jefferson County, KY. Mollie Edna Hawks died on 18 April 1955 at Jefferson County, KY, at age 81.
